You can break the anxiety cycle

As a kid, I would have appeared quite confident on the outside, like many people who struggle with anxiety, we learn to create an outside facade.  Becoming a teenager for me was quite challenging, I had a lot of body image issues which eventually led me down the path of an eating disorder.  Yet, I still managed to be the life of the party, never really letting my insecurities become known.  I learnt how to push through and get on with life.

However, it wasn’t until I got stuck in a hotel bathroom that I had my first panic attack.  Suddenly, everything was changing, I couldn’t keep wraps on it anymore and so the slippery slope of anxiety really took hold.  Moving on a few years, I had become a mum and I was living on the edge. I found it incredibly difficult to fly anymore, I would feel panicked on trains and I would walk down as many flights of stairs as possible to avoid getting in a lift.  Literally, I would lay in bed and feel like I couldn’t get enough air into my lungs.  It was horrible!

If you know me, you’d know I’m persistent — so I tried everything. My preference was natural methods, but I was open to anything. Eventually I reached a point where I knew I needed help, and I went looking for it properly.

My resolution came in a very surprising way. I chose to go to a workshop in Sydney which, as it turned out, was going to include some group work involving the unconscious mind. I wasn’t expecting a change — I just thought I’d give it a try. I had a significant shift after going through their process, I wanted more, and so I went and did a coaching course with the workshop facilitator.

Then I wanted to learn more, I got my qualifications in Strategic Psychotherapy, Clinical Hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming, Timeline Therapy and Quantum Healing.  Following this I set up a very clinical practice in Wollongong, NSW and later on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

Over the years, I have helped hundreds of people escape the anxiety cycle, get out of depressive symptoms and quit addictions.  What I have learnt over this time is that anxiety runs in families and that it is not uncommon for an adult with anxiety to have had one of their parents also have had struggles.  What I also know is that although anxiety does have a genetic component – there is no one anxiety gene.  A lot of anxiety is caused by programs we learn when we are young.  These programs reside at the level of the Unconscious mind and hence that is where the change needs to occur.

Combining this experience and knowledge while also being a parent has driven me to want to help parents not just master their own anxiety but also learn how to futureproof their kids against running anxiety patterns.

As you most probably are aware – childhood anxiety is on the rise and children are becoming anxious at an earlier age.  Here is what we need to realise – children don’t just learn from what we share with them – they learn from how we as parents respond to life.

If you are like me and believe that one of your most important jobs in life is to prepare your children the best you can for their life ahead – I would love to help you with that mission.
