Individual Sessions

Individual sessions are for adults who want personalised support with anxiety and recognise some of the following:

What most people aren't taught about anxiety

Anxiety starts beneath the surface

Anxiety isn't really about the behaviour you see. It's driven by patterns running underneath conscious thought.

Your Nervous System Responds

Those patterns send signals that something isn't safe — which is what drives the worry, avoidance and meltdowns.

The symptom isn't the problem

Managing the behaviour on top won't hold. Lasting change happens by shifting the pattern underneath — in you, and in your child.

How do anxiety patterns show up in everyday life?

  • You replay conversations and wonder what you should have said
  • You think ahead and imagine what could go wrong
  • You avoid situations that make you feel uncomfortable
  • You worry about what other people think of you
  • You feel better when you know what’s going to happen
  • You put pressure on yourself to get things right
  • You seek reassurance when you’re uncertain

Meet your Therapist, Anne Goodall

Anne is a published author and therapist with more than 10 years’ experience helping people with anxiety and behavioural change.

“After more than 10 years working with anxiety, one thing I’ve learned is that understanding why you’re anxious doesn’t always stop you from feeling anxious. You can know you’re overthinking, know the fear doesn’t make sense, and still find yourself responding in the same way. My work is about helping you recognise and change the patterns that may be keeping anxiety going.”

How is my approach different?

Talking about anxiety and understanding where it comes from can be incredibly valuable. But sometimes people tell me, “I understand why I do it — I just can’t seem to stop.”

That’s where my approach is different.

Rather than focusing only on the anxious feeling itself, we look at the patterns that may be keeping it going — overthinking, avoidance, negative expectancy, fear of judgement, perfectionism, needing certainty or trying to stay in control.

My background in Strategic Psychotherapy, Clinical Hypnosis and NLP allows me to work with both what you consciously understand and the more automatic ways you’ve learned to think and respond.

The aim isn’t to tell you to “just relax” or “think positively”. It’s to help you recognise those patterns, respond differently and practise those new responses until they become easier to use in everyday life.

It’s the difference between telling a child to feel calm and confident, and helping them actually learn it. That’s why the change holds, instead of fading after a fortnight

FAQ

Everyone is different. The number of sessions will depend on what you’re experiencing, the patterns we’re working with and what you want to achieve. We’ll discuss this together rather than locking you into a set number of sessions upfront.

There isn’t one timeframe that applies to everyone. Some people notice changes relatively quickly, while for others change happens more gradually as they practise responding differently in everyday life.

That’s completely fine. Many people come to me already understanding their anxiety very well. My approach focuses not only on what you consciously understand, but also on identifying and changing the automatic patterns that may be keeping anxiety going.

Clinical hypnosis is one of the approaches I’m trained in, but our work is tailored to you. We can talk about how I work, what you’re comfortable with and what may be appropriate before we begin.

You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly why you feel the way you do. Part of our work is understanding what’s happening now and identifying patterns that may be contributing to or maintaining the anxiety.

It’s simply a chance for us to briefly discuss what’s happening, what you’d like help with and whether I may be the right person to work with. There’s no obligation to book a session afterwards.
